September 11, 2024, General Meeting
Minutes PRESIDENT – Steve Sharkey, 1st VICE PRESIDENT – Joseph Keber, 2nd VICE PRESIDENT – Pat Trombetta, TREASURER – Joseph Cafaro, SECRETARY – Joseph Onuska
Steve Sharkey called the general meeting of
the WTSBC to order at the Woodbridge Community Center at 1:36 PM, with an
attendance of fifty-two active members which is a quorum. Attendance sheet
attached. Pledge of Allegiance: - Lou Algaze Led the pledge to
the flag. A moment of silence as we remember and honor all those
individuals who lost their lives from the 9/11/2001 attacks.
Officer Roll Call: Joseph
Onuska - All Officers are present. Secretary’s Report: Joe O.:
Steve Sharkey made a request for a motion to dispense with the reading of the
minutes. A motion made by Wayne Collins, seconded by Rob Jenkins, and approved
unanimously.
Awards presentation There
was an awards presentation for the winners in the Zirpolo and 9-ball season 9
and a pin award to Betty Dykeman for her second eight on the break against Joe
Cafaro.
Treasurer's Report: - Joe
Cafaro reported as of August 31st there is $4,357.47 in the account. Report

President's Report: Steve
welcomed the members and announced the Birthday and Anniversary lists for July,
August, and September. We currently have ninety-two active members. Room
attendance for August averaged 30-33 on weekdays and fifteen plus on weekends.
Picnic Joe C. There are
currently sixty-eight members and guests confirmed for the picnic. If you have
paid and have not confirmed your registration, please contact Joe C., and let
him know if you are coming. The picnic is scheduled for October second at
Pelzman Park from 1:00pm till 6:00pm.
Volunteers Steve: Steve talked about how the club
depends on volunteers to have the club run smoothly. Currently there is a need
for someone to join the hospitality committee, they would be responsible for
making coffee and purchasing and setting up the refreshments for our general
meetings. If more than one person wants to volunteer, they can run it on a
rotating basis. Steve mentioned that if we do not get anyone to volunteer there
will not be any refreshments at our next general meeting. There is also n need for
someone to take over the apparel committee. The job consists of taking and
placing orders from our club catalog and collecting for the purchase. When an
order is ready, Pat Murphy will pick it up and deliver it to the club. Rob
Jenkins volunteered to join the apparel committee. Pat Trombetta thanked Lou
Algaze for stepping up and making the coffee and Diane Walker for taking care of
the other refreshments.
CPR AED: Wayne Collins told
the members that there is a CPR-AED class coming up on October 10th at 10:00AM.
in the Woodbridge Community Center and anyone that wants to certify should
contact him and he will set it up. The course is free for our members and takes
about three hours. Mike DiGiovanni Food Bank Memorial Fundraiser – Wayne
Collins asked the members to support our foodbank fundraiser, and talked about
how Mike started the program collecting with a coffee can at our meetings, and
that his wife Camile is still involved and comes to our check presentation to
the foodbank. Food Pantries/Shoprite – Lou
Algaze talked about the collection date at the Shoprite and asked for volunteers
to go there and make shoppers aware of the donation process. Lou named the
members of our club that donate their time at the Woodbridge foodbank and said
they can always use more help at the foodbank. Lou invited anyone to contact him
about volunteering and he will explain the process.
Committee Updates: Membership/Orientation - Joe
Keber stated that there are two applicants on the waiting list, both of which
are on hold. We will interview them as soon as they are ready to join. Joe K.
stated that we will be placing an ad in the “Colonia Corner” letting the public
know that the club is looking for members. If anyone knows someone that would
like to join the club let us know and have them fill out an application. The
club welcomed two new members in July, Christina Malangone, and Shantha
Athalage.
Fellowship – John Borkowski
read a list of members that the committee has sent cards to or spoken to and
those that are in the hospital. Report Attached. Jim Mulvey talked about his
health issues. Steve asked the membership to contact John Borkowski if they know
of someone that could use contact from the committee in the form of a card or
someone to talk to.
Maintenance/Supplies – Steve Jimenez & Lou Algaze: No
Report. Water/Soda - Angel Rodriguez
No Report.
Tournaments/Fundraisers: 9-Ball Joe Keber: Joe will
collect the season ten nine ball sheets on October second and the captains
committee will have a meeting on October fourth to draft teams and make
adjustment to the rules.
Triple Play Joe K. The next triple play game is
scheduled for November twentieth. Sign up sheet will be available on October
ninth. In house Eight ball league
Joe K.- Signup sheet available on January second. The league will start on March
twenty-fifth and continue for twelve weeks.
Founding Fathers tournament Joe O.- Signup sheets are
available until Friday. The Tournament starts Monday September sixteenth and
will start at 9:30 sharp. Tiers three and four will also play the following
Thursday and Friday respectfully. Ed Hodan Day, (Steve)- Steve
reported that Ed Hodan has agreed to return to play our members. The tentative
date is November 23rd. Once we receive the date verification from Ed, we will
put out a sign-in sheet.
Members/Relative Tournament,
(Joe O): Signup sheet is available upstairs until September twenty-seventh. The
games are scheduled for September twenty-eighth and will start at 9:30 AM sharp.
The games will be two out of three for the first round then single elimination
till the end. There will be an award for the first-place team.
Veterans Day Tournament, Joe O.- The Games scheduled
for November 11th and will start at 9:30 sharp. This will be a team format with
the members divided into two teams to compete against each other. Lou told the
members that after the tournament the players will go to Applebee’s for free
lunch. Travel Team League, (Joe
K/Lou Algaze) - Lou talked about the revamped team that we are entering into the
CJSBL this year. The games are scheduled to start on September twenty-sixth.
Senior Olympics Pat: - Pat
thanked and named all the members that volunteered at the Olympics preparing the
room, registering the entrants, and refereeing billiards, and other members that
set up and ran Corn hole. Pat mentioned that there were fifteen hundred players
in the different events. Steve thanked Pat Trombetta, and the membership gave
Pat a standing ovation. Steve reported that we had seventeen club members
participating in the Billiards Olympic competition, seven of which received
medals. Joe K. read the names of our members that won medals in Corn hole.
Hospitality - (Diane
Walker/Lou Algaze):Steve thanked Diane Walker and Lou Algaze for setting up the
refreshments today and John Borkowski’s wife for making the crumb cake.
Ladies Day Tournament. Steve
mentioned that we did not have a Ladies Day tournament this year and if they
want one, they can see Joe Onuska to schedule a date.

Jenkins volunteered to take over the chair from Johana Calamusa. A catalog is
