October 9, 2024, General Meeting Minutes

Steve Sharkey called the general meeting of the WTSBC to order at the Woodbridge
Community Center at 1:32 PM, with an attendance of fifty-0ne active members
which is a quorum. Attendance sheet attached.
Steve announced that the E-Board had a discussion and decided that there is no
need for an increase in the dues for 2025. The Board has also decided that we
will be enforcing the minimal three general meetings per year rule starting in
2025. The room daily attendance for September was 30-33 members on weekdays and
fifteen members on weekends. There has been an increase in the number of people
not signing the sign-in sheet, please take the time to sign-in and out when you
come to the room.
Steve reminded the body that he asked for volunteers at the last meeting
primarily to make coffee at the meetings and if you notice there is no coffee
today. Fortunately, Christina Malangone has volunteered to make coffee starting
next month. Steve thanked Christina for supplying the crumb cake and thanked
Diane Walker for making the Apple pie.
Rob Jenkins took over the apparel committee along with Pat Murphy.
Ladies’ day tournament.
Steve invited the ladies in the club to organize a committee to have a ladies
day tournament. We will help get it together if you get the players.
Sergeant-at-Arms - Lou Algaze - coordinated seating, cell phones, and led the
Pledge of Allegiance.
Steve asked the members to please remain standing for a moment of silence in
remembrance of all our deceased members –
E-Board Roll Call

Joe O. Yes, we have fifty-one members present.
President’s Report
-- Steve acknowledged the Birthdays and Anniversary’s for October. Steve talked
about the emergency preparedness of the club.
Emergency evacuation
Our muster point is located by the clothing donation bins at the front of the
community center.
Election of officers announced.
- Steve announced that November is the month we nominate and elect officers for
the following year. Steve acknowledged that the current slate of officers has
agreed to run again. Steve went over the procedure for the nomination and
election of officers and what you need to qualify for office. If there are any
challenges for an office the election will be in December, if not the secretary
will cast a vote for the current slate of officers and the election will be
complete.
Dues
- No dues increase, the dues will remain at $60.00 for 2025.
Room attendance
- We are still at ninety-two current active members and thirteen inactive
members.
Secretary’s Report
– Joe O - Steve asked for motion to dispense with the reading of the minutes
from our last meeting on the September 11th Bob Kazimir made a motion
seconded by Jeff Levine and the motion passed unanimously.
Treasurer’s Financial Report
– Joe C – There is $4,760.61 in
account Report Attached.
Fall Picnic – October 2nd
Joe Cafaro reported that ninety-five people attended the club picnic. Wayne
Collins brought the cornhole game equipment. Ron Blackwell and Joe Keber won.
Joe Cafaro kept the books for the date changes and picked up the awards for the
raffle. Thank you, Joe C. Angle Rodriguez brought the water. The plan is to hold
the picnic in September next year.
Holiday Party Dominic’s
Joe C. Stated that if there are no other restaurants suggested by the
membership, the party will be on January fifteenth at Dominic’s Restaurant.
Mike D Giovanni Food Bank Memorial Fundraiser
– Wayne Collins - The fundraiser is in process; we currently have collected
$1,600.00. You can make donations to Joe Cafaro directly, drop a check in the
collection box in the room, drop cash in the box with a note attached saying
what it is for, or mail a check to Joe Cafaro at 32 Kilfoyle Ave, Fords, NJ
08863. The money goes to the “We feed Woodbridge food bank” to help feed the
sixteen hundred families in need in Woodbridge.
Food Pantry-
Lou Food Pantry needs volunteers for November 23rd at the Woodbridge
Shoprite from 9am to 5pm. They appreciate any hours you can be there. There are
currently six of our members that volunteer at the foodbank.
Ed Hodan
Will again play our members on November 23rd from10:30am to 12:30pm.
A sign-up sheet will be in the club room.
Committee Updates
Membership/Orientation/Waiting List
– Joe K - We are placing an advertisement in Colonia Corner soon. There is a
proposal to have an open house to increase our membership. There are two
inactive applications and no active applications. If anyone knows of anyone that
would like to become a member, let us know or give them an application.
Fellowship
– John Borkowski Joe O. read John’s report. Report attached.
Room Maintenance/Supplies
– Steve Jimenez & Lou Algaze Please do not put garbage in the food collection
bucket. We may be moving the bucket from the room to a different location. Steve
Jimenez reported that we will be picking up a nine-foot table tomorrow to
replace table four. Steve J. said they are looking for a volunteer to help move
the table. The new table should be operational sometime on Saturday. Bob Wardlow
is purchasing the table for the club. Pat reported that we have the cloth to
cover the new table. We will close tables 3, 4, and five during the transfer.
The fate of the current table four is to be determined. Steve Sharkey thanked
Bob Wardlow and the moving crew for everything they were doing. Pat Trombetta
thanked Bob Wardlow for the donation.
Water/Soda Supply
– Angel Rodriquez/Mike Talty No Report
Upcoming Tournaments/Events:
Season 10 Nine Ball,
10/8/24 (Joe K) The first week went well and will continue for eleven weeks. The
games start at 10:00am. There are forty-two members in six teams playing. League
ends on December twenty-third.
Triple Play,
11/20/24 (Joe K) Sign-up sheets are on the club table, and we will collect them
on November fourteenth. The games will be on November 20. And start at 9:30 am
sharp.
Halloween Billiard Bash
(Steve), The affair will be on 10/31/2024, Vanessa Van K will run the affair
that starts at 12:00pm.
Veterans Day Tournament,
11/11/2024 (Joe O) The eight-ball games will be on Veterans Day November
eleventh at 9:30 am sharp. All club members that served in the armed forces are
eligible to play. The sign-up sheet is on the club table in the room. Lou Algaze
will make reservations for a free lunch at Applebee’s.
Veterans Appreciation Celebration.
Nov 8th from 11:00am – 1:300 pm at the Maple Tree Senior Center 109
Morrisey Ave. RSVP to any Senior center by October 23rd.
Travel Team League,
2024 (Pat/Lou Algaze) The team played Piscataway and lost 7/5. The next game
against Ewing is on 10/10/2024 at home.
In House Eight Ball League,
3/2025 (Joe K) Sign-up sheet will be out on January second. The games start on
Mar 25th and will end on June tenth. The season will take twelve
weeks. Games will start at 9:30.
Tournament Committee/Tier Movements,
(Wayne Collins) Wayne announced the winners of the 2024 Founding Fathers
tournament. The awards presentation scheduled for November’s general meeting.
The tournament committee made player movements to balance tiers. Two tier 1-B
players moved to tier 1-A. Five players moved from tier two to tier 1-B, and one
player moved from tier three to tier two. The players moved by purely
statistical data. The players with the highest average of their top three
tournaments in 2023 and 2024 moved. Next year players will move up or down
using the statistics during the 2024 and 2025 major tournaments.

Floor Open/Q&A
-- Steve - Barbara Clark asked how the food bank donations get distributed.
Wayne detailed the process of how the foodbank distributes the donations to the
eleven Woodbridge Foodbanks that serve sixteen hundred families.
The Next Meeting of the WTSBC scheduled for November 13, 2024
Being there was no more business to discuss, a motion to adjourn made by
Rob Jenkins seconded by Gary Lazur passed unanimously.
